Arsenal ‘Given’ hope
Arsenal have finally been boosted in their search for a new number one goal keeper to stand between the goal posts at The Emirates. Manchester City’s number one goal keeper Shay Given has revealed that he would look to move elsewhere if he isn’t given the starting role in Manchester City’s upcoming game with Tottenham. The game is scheduled to take place this weekend. Rumours came in stating that Joe Hart would be promoted to being the new number one at The Eastlands and will be starting that game. Given was not very pleased to hear those rumours and has hence threatened to leave the Manchester based club.
City are one of the few rare clubs left out there who have the privilege to choose amongst two of the best goal keepers out there. That is something teams like Arsenal can only dream about. Arsenal have almost always been struggling in their goal keeper department ever since Seaman left the club. Joe Hart and Shay Given have both been previously linked with a move to The Emirates as Arsene Wenger finally decided to step up his pursuit to land a new goal keeper.
Given was the first choice goal keeper at the Eastland last season, but it seems that the keeper might be given a challenge this time around for that spot. Joe Hart was loaned to Birmingham last season and had an excellent spell with the club. Hart even managed a remarkable seven clean sheets in a row at the club. It was performances like these that made him the fan favourite at the club. The thirty four year old Shay Given has stated that he wouldn’t be happy with sitting on the bench and is hence looking for different options. Given also said that if he is left out on the bench by Roberto Mancini, this coming weekend he wouldn’t think twice about leaving the club.
Given is reported to have said, “Yeah, we’re both at a stage when we need to be playing football. If i don’t start then I’ll sit down with the club next week and see where my future is and maybe vice versa with Joe as we both feel we should be playing.
I’m 34 and I’m at a stage where i need to be playing, I’ll hopefully play on Saturday but whatever decision the manager makes I’ll respect that and maybe sit down with the club next week.I hope it’s going to be me, but if it’s not we’ll see what happens.
“Ideally I would like to stay at the club because it’s a big club and an ambitious club, with fantastic owners and I want to be part of that, that’s why I joined in the first place.
“Possibly, if I didn’t start, then there could be a loan and then I’d come back and see where that takes me.”
It seems as though both the players have already talked about their future with each other and not the management. This is rather interesting since secretively both the players have already decided what they will be doing depending on the outcome of the line up this Saturday.
So its either going to be Hart or Given that leaves the team. Either way it would be good news for Arsenal fans who have been dreading over Almunia ever since he took  charge of the number one jersey at Arsenal. Arsene Wenger wouldn’t hesitate or think twice about landing either of the players, since both of them have on countless occasions proved their worth. According to experts however Hart would be a better option for Arsenal considering he is the younger of the two and would make a much better long term prospect.
