Arsenal – Manchester United Review – Part 2
Article Continued from Part 1
Fittingly, Ramsey had started the move himself.
When United flowed forward in search of an equalizer, Ramsey was the one who broke up the play brilliantly and then pushed Arsenal forward for counter attacks.
The limelight surrounds Wilshere but it must be remembered that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Ramsey-c3065 is an equally talented, if not more, young player. Arsenal fans should expect these types of performances from him on a regular basis.
With the urgency mounting, United surged forward through Rooney and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Laurent-Koscielny-c21742 who has not been getting his fair share of the applause.
Although a few nervy eyebrows were raised when the injured Djourou had to be taken off and Squillaci made his way onto the pitch, he had a less than impressive performance letting off Rooney too easily on more than one occasion. He certainly was a concern
for the Arsenal fans.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 bossed Clichy around the last time these two teams met but Clichy had visibly done his homework and was efficient enough to thwart the threat posed by Nani.
Song did a great job of marking Rooney making sure that the English striker did not have enough time on the ball to dictate play. When Rooney dropped deep, Song followed him as well.
In the first half, Rooney barely got a touch of the ball and Hernandez was running around the beautiful Emirates pitch chasing shadows. Song stood strong and made sure that Rooney had no impact on the game and therefore, the United attack was effectively
dulled.
Van Persie was excellent as usual and led the team from the front as a stand in captain for the injured Spaniard, Cesc Fabregas. His searching runs behind the United back four caused a constant threat and had it not been for Vidic’s handball, he would have
had a spectacular diving goal to his name.
He was instrumental in setting up the goal and often tracked back to do his defensive bit for the team.
A notable mention is Andrey Arshavin. What a defensive performance by the little Russian. His sliding tackles added much flare to the Arsenal game and he had been pitching perfect in his way of sliding in on the opposition.
The injured Nasri, with a point to prove, (after his lackluster performance at Leeds) produced a performance proving his heart for the Arsenal team and the type of dedicated determination that would surely had won him the hearts of the Arsenal fans.
He tracked back with amazing speed and lent a worthy hand to Gael Clichy winning the ball back almost as soon as the opposition had possession.
The only worrying moment was when Eboue came onto the field as a replacement for Walcott. But his no nonsense play came as a relief to the packed Emirates Stadium.
Ferguson’s strategy failed this time around. In recent years Arsenal has been thwarted by their wingers and a 4-4-1-1 formation meant that the wingers had to sit deep and this suited Arsenal more as they came out of the blocks and had the Red Devils on the
back foot immediately.
Arsenal’s win sets up a tantalizing clash with Chelsea which could be a potential title decider.
Manchester United need a draw to put them in pole position for the title but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 need a win to have one hand on the trophy already.
What an end this is turning out to be.
