Arsenal: Winter Transfer Prospects
The North London giants of English Premier League, Arsenal have one of the best possible sides when considering game plays and with the return of their key players they have proved they have depth in their squad too. With an early Dark
November it is hard to assume that they are short of numbers of players.
However, there is always room for a quality player to become a part of team and add to its strength. Even though Gunners have a lot of technically brilliant and creative midfielders, Arsenal manager was still attracted by the prospect
of securing the services of Yoann Gorcuff in the summer. The Gunners are desperate to break their title drought, and if signing any player could add to the quality to this talented side, Arsenal manager will evaluate the prospects of signing the player in
winters.
Arsene Wenger is renowned for his deadline day signings and his one of the most famous signing was the Russian skipper, Andrei Arshavin. Andrei Arshavin was signed on 2nd Feb 2008 just few hours before the deadline
and his addition also helped Arsenal to qualify for the next Champions League Round.
Nonetheless, here are some of the players which could flourish under Arsene Wenger and it is also realistically possible for Arsene Wenger to secure their services.
Daniel Agger:
Current Club: Liverpool
On the papers, Arsenal defence line-up looks formidable but realistically it is the only department in team that needs to be improved and have some quality players. Daniel Agger has been very impressive at Anfield and has got a lot English
Premier League’s experience.
The 25-year-old is a tall and strong defender, and in addition to his aerial ability, he has also got good technique. The Danish defender is also one of the most passionate players on the pitch, and can also feature as a left back.
Currently, Daniel Agger is the fourth choice defender at Anfield and it is very likely that he will not get much of playing time this season. So it is possible that he may want a move away from Liverpool, come January.
Daniel’s vast experience could be great for Arsenal. Moreover, Daniel Agger is also cup-tied, which will give a lot of depth to the team.
Expected Transfer Fee: 5-7 million
Jan Vertonghen
Current Club: Ajax
Jan Vertonghen is a talented defender who is currently playing for Dutch Champions, Ajax and has impressed a lot in last couple of seasons.
The Belgian international is blessed with good technique and his understanding of the game is excellent. Besides, Jan has also played alongside with Arsenal’s defensive leader, Vermaelen, while playing for Belgium. The 23-year-old has
impressed a lot since his arrival at Godenzonen and his addition to the Gunners’ defence line would surely increase their depth and strength.
Jan came through the ranks of the youth academy of Dutch Champions and has developed into a key player at Ajax since making his debut in 2006-07. The Belgian defender has made over 100 appearances so far.
However, he has already been scouted by several top clubs, and it will be tough for the Dutch Champions to hold on to their talismanic centre back.
Moreover, Jan Vertonghen also claimed that he wishes to play alongside his former Ajax partner, Vermaelen at the Emirates.
Without a doubt, Vertonghen would be a quality addition for the future and both Belgian defenders could bring fruitful results at Arsenal.
Vertonghen’s current contract runs until the summer of 2013, but an offer in the region of €15 million could be enough to lure him away from Ajax.
Expected Transfer Fee: 12-15 million
