Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits interest in Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, Frenchman determined to remain with La Liga side
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed he was interested in buying Real Madrid’s French striker Karim Benzema in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old forward is currently being targeted by Europe’s elite, having immensely impressed during his time with Lyon and Real Madrid.
While he was unrivalled at the Ligue 1 side, he had to compete for a place in the starting eleven at Madrid, with Gonzalo Higuain as his competition.
It was only when Higuain picked up an injury that kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season that Benzema got a chance to prove himself at Madrid.
This season Benzema went on to make 48 appearances, score 26 goals and provide 9 assists as compared to his previous season when he only made 33 appearances, with 9 goals and 4 assists.
However, Higuain has returned to full fitness and is expected to return to his role as the first choice at the Santiago Bernabeu next term.
That only means one thing; Benzema will have to return to his role as a secondary striker for the La Liga giants.
The youngster is said to be considering a move abroad in search for regular football, he has been linked to some English Premier League sides.

Wenger said while speaking to reporters:
“Signing him does not seem impossible. He's a player that I like.
He's intelligent in his movement; he is capable of combining well with others and making a difference, and of doing individual moves as well.
So for me, he's a player who's at the top level in the world.”
Barely finishing in the top four for yet another season, Arsenal could really use some reinforcements in the summer.

While Wenger has already made it clear he could be making an offer for the Madrid striker, the player himself does not seem to keen on a move away.
Benzema’s agent Karim Djaziri confirmed his client wished to remain with Spanish giants and honour his contract.
The player’s agent was spotted in London, which sparked rumours that he was meeting with Arsenal regarding a possible move.
However, he rejected the speculation linking Benzema to Arsenal, insisting the forward intended to continue playing at Madrid under Jose Mourinho.

“I went to London for personal business, not to discuss any transfer.
