Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes his team should be proud of their efforts
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that his team should not feel guilty about how their season has progressed so far. He believes that his side has the right mentality to win the Barclays Premier League title in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Arsenal crashed out of three competitions in the space of two weeks. First they slumped to a 2-1 loss to Birmingham in the Carling Cup final, followed by a 4-3 aggregate defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38605 in the UEFA Champions League, and the 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final exit
against Manchester United last weekend.
The only ray of hope left for the Gunners is the English Premier League this season. Arsene Wenger’s side is in a good position to win the Premier League title with only 10 matches left to play. The Gunners are only three points behind league leaders United
and also have a game in hand. The fixture schedule is also on Arsenal’s side as they have to play against comparatively easier opponents.
Despite a host of injury concerns, Wenger has belief in his side to deliver their first piece of silverware since 2005.
Wenger told reporters, "If you look at what we did this season, it deserves a lot of credit. You have to put it right until the end of the season and continue to do as we did at the start of the season.''
The Arsenal boss added, "Would anybody have predicted that we are where we are, in front of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester City and fighting for the championship? Nobody. We went out against Barcelona - it's just one goal, playing with 10 men and we had a chance
in the last minute to qualify.”
Wenger feels that his side should not let their heads down, as they are not in a disastrous situation where they are in danger of being relegated from the league. The 61-year-old has demanded mental strength from the team and asked them to support each other.
Wenger went on to praise goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jens-Lehmann-c18297, who has re-joined the Gunners for a short stint, until the end of the season. Wenger feels that Lehmann’s experience will help the young Arsenal side, as the German is a real motivator.
