Arsenal boss says he must take care with Cesc Fabregas
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claims that he must be careful with captain Cesc Fabregas after the midfielder suffered from a recurrence of a problem with his hamstrings.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup winner sustained an injury to his right hamstring in his side's 2-0 defeat to Portuguese outfit Braga in a UEFA Champions League group stage match on Tuesday 23 November. He had only just recently recovered from a problem with his
left hamstring which had kept him out of action for four weeks.
Wenger had initially predicted that the Spaniard would be out of action for two weeks, but has conceded that Fabregas could be out of action for longer and that he would have to take a cautious approach with the 23-year-old.
He told reporters: "Fabregas will be assessed with a scan. We don't know how long he will be out. It's too early to predict. It is a big blow because it will question how cautious we have to be in the future with him. Cesc has played 50 games a year since
a young age. We may have to be more cautious with him, especially in the next two months
"We had a chat before the game on Tuesday. He felt perfectly all right, all the data we had were positive so its difficult to say to a player: 'I know you're fit, I know you feel good, but you don't play.' And on the other hand if you look at the number
of games he played (more than 270 over the course of his career) — he played more the years before last year and the year before."
Fabregas will definitely miss his side's English Premier League game away to Aston Villa on Saturday 27 November and is also likely to be ruled out on the Carling Cup quarter-final against Wigan Athletic at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday 30 November.
