Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas ruled out of Carling Cup final against Birmingham City
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of the Carling Cup final since he hasn’t yet recovered from his hamstring injury.
The Gunners will be looking to win their first piece of silverware in more than six seasons, but they’ll have to get out at the Wembley without their captain. Arsenal will take on Birmingham City in the Carling Cup final. The Spaniard has been reported
as being desperate to be part of the team despite suffering a hamstring injury in the game against Stoke City.
The Spanish World Cup winner was seen limping off the pitch on Wednesday against Stoke. Arsenal won the game 1-0, but the victory came at a great cost. Fabregas lasted just 14 minutes in the game before he started limping and was called off the field. The
Arsenal camp announced later that Fabregas had been taken out more as a precaution rather than necessity. Arsenal were dealt another blow in the second half of the same match when their young forward http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873 also crashed out of the game with a nasty ankle
injury. Walcott had to be stretchered out after his left ankle was twisted pretty badly during a challenge by Stoke’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dean-Whitehead-c10729. Walcott will certainly miss the Carling Cup final due to his injury.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed that Fabregas would not be taking part in Sunday’s much-anticipated final. Wenger said, “It is a very small injury, but certainly Cesc will be out for Sunday.” Wenger added, “For how long, I don't know.”
The Gunners manager had earlier ruled out Walcott from the final and now with the news of Fabregas also not being able to play, Arsenal will be missing two of their key attackers.
There is still some good news though. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Abou-Diaby-c3453 are all expected to be fit in time for Wembley. The trio was not part of the team in the game against Stoke City, each of them down with minor injuries and Wenger had
decided to rest them ahead of the final.
The final is a big game for Arsenal because it promises a trophy for them after a long time. However, they will still be worried about the big game against Barcelona due in two weeks. The Gunners will take on Barcelona in the second leg of the UEFA Champions
League Round of 16 tie at the Nou Camp. The Gunners won the first leg in sensational fashion at home after being 0-1 down to end 2-1.
The win for Arsenal against Stoke City moved them up on the points chart to within a point of the leaders Manchester United.
The Gunners will not be in action in the Premier League due to the Carling Cup final and Wenger will be hoping that the Red Devils drop points so that Arsenal may narrow the gap.
