Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas speaks at last; respects Arsenal but admires Barcelona too
At last the world class Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas has uttered a line that emphasizes his dedication and respect to Arsenal and brings out a clearer picture that the player indeed is going to stay with the gunners this season. However even those few lines were marred by the appreciation he had for Barcelona as they still continue to pursue their long lost talent.
The Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas was forced to wear a Barcelona shirt after returning back home to a jubilant Spain as they had become the World Champions for the first time. Spain’s team consists of a large majority of players from the club Barcelona FC and while they were celebrating the victory they thought it would be more fun if they play with the then soon coming to Barcelona player, Fabregas.
Since the start of the summer the “Fabregas Saga” began engulfing much of the football world in it. Barcelona have desperately been making bids to attain the prodigal striker who started his career back home in Barcelona but had to leave the club as he was constantly overshadowed by the midfielders Xavi and Iniesta along with the rest of the star studded team.
Fabregas was in his growing and learning stages back then and knew that if he wanted to shine better he would have to make a change and therefore he was brought to Arsenal. At that time Arsenal was a club that was seeing one of its best times whilst being hailed as the “Invincibles”. There he was bred up by the brilliant French manager Arsene Wenger who came to the club in 1996.
As the transfer deadline draws nearer and nearer the Catalans keep insisting on their bid for the prodigal midfielder who, in the last season, had 19 goals and 19 assists for the North Londoners in 36 appearances. Wenger on the other hand keeps on denying offers stating that if the Spanish Giants want to have Fabregas they must put a bid of 60 million pounds on the table before the negotiations even begin but Barca on the other hand are not willing to pay more than half of it.
Fabregas and Wenger earlier bickered a lot about the transfer and they were heading for a straight on crash but they both calmed down and talked about the matter; it was decided that action would be taken after the World Cup but the situation remains the same though both characters have more respect for each other now, well at least in their statements.
Fabregas is now heading back to the Gunners at their training grounds in London Colney after returning from the vacations. While talking to the media the Spanish star stated, “I am from Barcelona. I am a club member, along with my grandfather, my uncle and my cousin. I feel those colours and have since I was young. I am Catalan, I am from Arenys, I have come through the Barca youth system”.
Players from Barcelona have already endorsed their former team mate and have in fact insisted Arsenal to let them have their former brother. Players like Lionel Messi, Puyol, Pique, Valdes are just among a few of the leading names that have commented on the arrival of the Arsenal skipper. Xavi has went as far as saying that the player is just like he is playing for loan in Arsenal and Barca is expected to take him back soon.
Fabregas continued, “Those players are my friends and have been for many years. They play stellar football and everything they have won they deserve 100%. (Carles) Puyol gives me confidence and has taken care of me like an older brother. Bojan inspires calm. (Sergio) Busquets is simple and authentic. Xavi is a maestro. (Andres) Iniesta has so much patience, especially given what has happened to him in terms of injuries. (Lionel) Messi is calm, shy, and very kind. (Victor) Valdes has a lot of personality”.
He added, “However, I am Arsenal's captain. I am a Gunner and that is where I have made myself as a player and matured as a person. He (Arsene Wenger) is a second father to me, the most important person in my life after my father. He has been very supportive of me and has treated my like a son. I am part of his family”.
He also stated that he remembered the conversation that he had after the encounter with Wenger, which happened to be one of his greatest moments of inspiration. Fabregas stated, “He does not want me to leave. My last conversation with him in London was one of the most difficult moments I have had to live. I am left very touched. I want to continue fighting for every title, especially the Champions League, because I am a winner”.
