Arsenal defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002, has confirmed that he will miss the rest of the season - EPL News
Arsenal defender, Thomas Vermaelen, has confirmed that he will not feature in the rest of the ongoing 2010-11 season and has aimed for a successful comeback to first team football by playing full pre-season. The Belgian defender has also claimed that he
will return ‘stronger than ever’ and will try to give his best next season.
He said, “The chances that I will play another game this season are small. I can understand my manager when he says that my season is over. I have been out for seven months and I must fulfil a complete 'pre-season', so it's logical that he won't take risks”.
“Time is ticking away and the season finishes in two months. I must first get fit again, and then gain rhythm. So I've still a long way to go. I can kick a ball as hard as possible, but that's not my problem. I need to run without pain”, added the Belgian
defender.
Vermaelen suffered an Achilles injury in Belgium’s EURO 2012 qualifier against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385.
The 25-year-old was initially side-lined for few weeks by Arsenal's management but the defender failed to regain full fitness.
Numerous dates have been set for Vermaelen’s return but every single occasion the Belgian defender was deemed unfit by Arsenal's medical squad.
The former Ajax player underwent a successful operation last month but Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the defender will not take any part in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Vermaelen had been a revelation at Arsenal since making a €12 million transfer from Dutch side, Ajax, in summer 2009. The Belgian defender replaced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kolo-c21278 Toure, who joined Manchester City, in the heart of Arsenal and formed a formidable partnership with William
Gallas.
The Belgian international scored in his very first match for Arsenal and became one of the very few defenders to score a goal on a debut. The 25-year-old has scored 8 times in 48 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal.
