Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna believes players should get more protection from referees
Arsenal full-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bacary-Sagna-c7148 wants English Premier League referees to get stricter on foul challenges, like referees in other leagues such as the Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A.
Sagna believes that Paul Scholes’ recent challenge on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 in the FA Cup quarter-final was so harsh that it could have broken the midfielder’s leg, but the referee only cautioned the Manchester United man.
He revealed his anger over the referee’s decision not to show Scholes a red card.
"We've had two broken legs," Sagna said, referring to midfielder Aaron Ramsey and former striker Eduardo da Silva. He added "We went to Manchester and Samir (Nasri) got his leg ripped off again. There's nothing (done about it).”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eduardo-c12038 also suffered a similar injury from Martin Taylor’s tackle in 2008, and even though he made a comeback two
years later, he never fully recovered from it.
Sagna, who himself was a recipient of a nasty challenge from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 in the FA Cup last-eight clash, said that it was a clean challenge and Rooney only went for the ball.
The 28-year-old feels that foreign players are treated roughly by the referees in the Premier League and believes that if Nasri would have been an Englishmen, the referee’s decision would have been different.
Sagna added, "Samir should perhaps change nationality, I don't know ... I don't want to get into such a debate, I don't want to concentrate on that because I have much more important things to think about. I get the impression it's like that, maybe I'm wrong."
The French international went on to discuss Arsenal’s problematic defensive record this season and believes that his team-mates are not learning from their mistakes, which has cost them dearly this season.
The former Auxerre man is currently on international duty with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and is expected to feature in their Euro 2012 qualifier against Luxemburg later today.
