Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen ruled out for season, while Johan Djourou could return in six weeks
Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger has gone on to confirm that the team’s Belgian center-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002, is not going to feature for the team again this season.
The news of the player not being able to return to Arsenal for the rest of the season, came shortly after he came forth and stated that he had suffered six relapses on his road to recovery. The player injured his Achilles tendon way back in September and
due to some mystery reason has failed to recover as yet and that is despite the fact that the player has had surgery performed on him to aid his recovery.
At the same time Wenger went on to confirm the extent of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Johan-Djourou-c18779’s injury and stated the player would be out for at least six weeks. This is despite the Swiss Football Association going ahead and stating the Swiss International could potentially be
back in action at the end of the month.
Djourou for one does not want to cause any further damage to his injured shoulder, but is still looking forward to returning to the team before the season comes to a close.
The defender is reported to have said, “In my heart, I was initially hopeful because they said to me that I didn't have a rupture and nothing was broken so I was thinking: 'Brilliant, I can get back as quickly as possible'”
“With shoulders is that if you don't operate and I played in a month, it could come out again. We'll just have to see how it settles over the next few days,” added Djourou.
These injuries to two of the four defenders amongst the Arsenal squad have really caused the team to take a giant step in the backward direction. Now the Gunners cannot risk either http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Laurent-Koscielny-c21742, or Sebastian Squillaci to suffer even a minor injury or
set back. If that does happen, the team will have to turn to an outfield player to provide cover at the back and/or turn to the reserves.
At the same time, there is only one positive that can be taken from this whole situation; Arsene Wenger might finally go ahead and spend in the transfer window. It seems like it is high time that the manager realized he needs some cover in the squad for
a number of positions, with the center of his defense being his priority at this point.
