Arsenal forward Robin Van Persie ruled out of Euro 2012, EPL for a month due to ankle injury
Arsenal’s Dutch striker Robin van Persie has been injured and ruled out the Euro 2012 competition as well as the English Premier League for the next couple of weeks.
The official announcement of the injury came from the Dutch football federation itself when they said that van Persie has suffered from a severe injury and won’t be in action for at least 3 weeks.
The Dutch football federation (KNVB) has stated that world class strikers had a permanent place in the squad but after this injury, it has become apparent that he won’t be playing in the Euro 2012 qualification process at the least.
Issues about Van Persie’s fragility have been on the rise since the past few years. In EPL fixtures, the star is considered to be one of those players who was at risk of injury with the slightest of tackles.
The player has constantly been reminded that he can make a switch from EPL where all experts agree that the football game play is too rough. However, van Persie has stated that he is happy playing for the Gunners and their manager Arsene Wenger would be more than just reluctant to transfer the player to another club.
Last season, van Persie suffered from a similar fate when he damaged his ankle ligament and was ruled out of play for the next 5 months. The injury happened when he twisted his ankle in a Premier League match against Blackburn at Ewood Park.
For now, KNVB has confirmed that van Persie will not be playing in the European Championship qualifiers. In their first match, the Dutchmen faced an uphill battle against San Marino and Finland.
After the game against Blackburn, Arsene Wenger stated that he hoped the injury was short lived but his hopes have been crushed by Dutch doctors who have ruled him out for a month.
While talking to the media, Wenger stated, “It is a twisted ankle. We will have to check but, if we have no bad news, we hope that in eight to ten days he can be okay”.
Netherlands have already found a replacement for van Persie and it is going to be the 34-year-old Hamburg forward Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Back in Euro 2008, Van Nistelrooy has declared his official international retirement. However, he decided against it just before the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He looks in good form this season after scoring 6 goals in 3 games for Hamburg this season.
