Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny training despite being injured – Premier League news
Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that he is still spending hours on the training pitch despite being ruled out for six weeks due to a damaged finger.
Szczesny injured his finger in his club’s UEFA Champions League defeat against Barcelona at Nou Camp three weeks ago.
He said, “I work in the gym every day, working on my lower body and my distribution as well which will be very good for me. I'm not getting bored; I can still do a lot of stuff. There's nothing you can do when it happens - you have to move on, work hard
on your fitness and make sure you come back stronger than ever.”
“There's not a lot of joint damage, the tendon is ruptured. So basically I have to keep my finger in a splint for four weeks and let the tendon heal. From then it will be a couple of weeks before I can be back in the squad. It's very hard, especially at
a time when it was going well for me. We have got some big games coming up,” added Szczesny.
The 20-year-old injured his finger while saving a powerful set-piece of Daniel Alves in the starting minutes of Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League knockout round fixture at Nou Camp.
Initially, it was being feared that the Polish keeper will not play any part in the rest of the ongoing 2010-11 season. Later, it was confirmed by Arsene Wenger that Szczesny could be out for at least six weeks.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wojciech-Szczesny-c36998, who made his Barclays Premier League debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford, has been a revelation at Arsenal. The 20-year-old has cemented his place in the starting eleven after putting strings of impressive performances for
the Gunners recently.
Moreover, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vito-Mannone-c36276, who was on loan at Hull City is also suffering from a thigh injury and is unlikely to recover before May
2011.
Szczesny’s injury has also forced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jens-Lehmann-c18297 to come out of the retirement after the German was called by Arsene Wenger to deputise Manuel Almunia for the upcoming fixtures.
It seems like Arsenal are going to sorely miss the likes of Fabianski and Szczesny after the howler produced by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Almunia-c23386 in the Gunners’ recent 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion.
