Ian Wright, the former Arsenal and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 striker, revealed he was disgusted by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s decision to sack Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The Russian billionaire sacked Ancelotti minutes after the last English Premier League fixture of the season, a 1-0 loss to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 at Goodison Park.
Ancelotti becomes the sixth manager to leave Chelsea in just nine years, which according to Wright made them scarily similar to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid.
The La Liga giants have gone through 11 managers in 12 years, with Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho the current manager.
Wright compared the English Premier League side to Madrid, claiming he never expected to see such antics in English football.
However, the arrival of Abramovich in 2003 saw the sacking of Claudio Ranieri, the Italian manager who had been with the club since 2000.
Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss Jose Mourinho was brought in and he went to win back to back English Premier League titles in his first two seasons at the London club.
In the middle of the 2007-2008 season, Mourinho reportedly left by mutual consent. The reason for his departure was irreconcilable difference between the two parties.
Avram Grant was then brought in as a caretaker manager for the remainder of the season. Despite the Israeli manager leading Chelsea to a UEFA Champions League final, he was let go at the end of the season.
Luiz http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Felipe-c13510 Scolari was brought in at the start of the 2008-2009 season, but failed to deliver the expected results and faced a mid-season sacking.
The coach of the Russian national side and an associate of Abramovich, Guus Hiddink was brought in to manage the side until the end of the season.
The Dutch manager led an underperforming Chelsea side to a top three finish in the Premier League and a FA Cup title.
Even though Abramovich was determined to retain the services of the Dutchman, Hiddink declined, claiming his responsibility was first to the Russian national side.
In the summer of former AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti arrived at Stamford Bridge at led the Blues to their first ever domestic double.
The Blues seemed to be unstoppable under Ancelotti as they beat the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal to claim the English Premier League crown and the FA Cup.
The Italian manager had a way of getting the best out of his players and he did so without making any significant, expensive additions to the squad.
Unfortunately for the Italian manager, he was unable to recreate his success in his second season at the club and the Blues ended the season without any silverware.
It was fairly obvious Abramovich would not tolerate failure and Ancelotti would eventually be facing a Stamford Bridge exit.
No one quite expected Ancelotti to be sacked just moments after the last game of the season, that too while still at the opponents home.
Wright, who is now a football pundit, said he felt the way a world-class manager like Ancelotti was sacked was disgraceful.
He admitted he was surprised with the way the Italian manager had been treated at the London club and how some Chelsea supporters seemed to be happy with the decision.
Ian Wright wrote:
“Carlo Ancelotti has become the first Double-winning manager in the history of English football to be sacked and while this dismissal is both disgraceful and disgusting, it is also downright embarrassing.
He is bringing shame upon the club and to all the many decent Chelsea fans who wanted Ancelotti to be given another chance of winning the Champions League, considering his amazing success in his first season in the Premier League and FA Cup.
Some Chelsea supporters seem happy that the Italian has been replaced but I do not understand why. It makes no sense whatsoever.”
Chelsea are currently on the look-out for a replacement for Ancelotti, with Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink, Andres Villas Boas and Marco van Basten as the favorites to take the hot-seat at Stamford Bridge.
