Arsenal look to shore up defence with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christopher-Samba-c9212
It has been reported that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is looking to end the defensive crisis at the club, and as a result is looking to make a move for Blackburn’s want-away defender Christopher Samba.
With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002 having failed to recover from his Achilles injury and Sebastian Squillaci also joining him on the treatment table, the Gunners boss accepted that he had very little choice but
to sign a quality defender or two in the winter transfer window. This was due to the fact that at the moment the only two fully fit defenders at the club are http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Johan-Djourou-c18779, which in itself tells us the story of the Arsenal defence this
season.
Arsenal have already felt their weak back line crumble, as they were held by Leeds United and ultimately beaten by Ipswich Town in their last two games.
As a result Samba has emerged as one of the prime targets for the Gunners, and he could also prove to be the cheapest option for the team. Arsenal were looking to pursue http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439 from Bolton Wanderers,
but the English defender was going to set the team back around twenty million pounds. As a result, it seems like Samba is the new number one target for the Gunners since he is significantly cheaper. The French-born Congolese international is currently valued
at around eight million pounds.
If Arsenal do manage to bring in Samba, then it could potentially help solve two problems at the club. Firstly the team would secure the signing of an experienced defender, who could help reinforce
the Gunners back-line. Secondly Samba could help increase the team’s ability to defend set-pieces. Arsenal currently possesses some vertically challenged defenders, and the likes of Samba could really help the team improve their ability to defend corners and
free-kicks, which have left them looking really vulnerable over the years.
All in all, a move for Samba to the Emirates could prove to be a match made in heaven. That is of course if the deal does go through and no one else beats the Gunners to the punch.
