Arsenal looking to sign defenders in January

Siyanda Xulu, felt that after being turned down by Barcelona, he would have no future in Europe. However Arsenal have given the young defender a ray of hope, by showing some positive interest in signing the player and bringing
him to the Emirates in January.
The player is currently employed by the Mamelodi Sundows, but is on trial with the North London team, after having his dreams crushed by Barcelona.
The communications manager at the Sundowns is reported to have said: “We are extremely excited by the prospects that could be on the young man’s horizon”
“It is satisfying for us that the young man is being acknowledged and pursued by such esteemed teams.
“We are especially pleased that we continue to show that when you play for Sundowns the sky is truly the limit.
“If Arsenal are happy with him talks will open between the parties involved.”
The player is expected to stay in Arsenal for at least one week in October to continue with his trial. He is then expected to be heading back to South Africa, were he will be put under the microscope by Wenger and his scouts.
The other defender that Wenger has set his sights on is seventeen year old, Emmanuel Mbola. The player is currently playing for Armenian side, Pyunik Yereven. The player has also been in some sort of a mix up with the side, regarding
his transfer and future. However with FIFA intervening, the player could be on his way to joining the Arsenal youth side sooner rather than later.
Arsene Wenger as always, is looking to develop the squad for the future, however when that future will come is still quite unclear to everyone. The team’s fans will be hoping that apart from signing the two young defenders, the
manager decides to bring in the much needed experience and stability to the team, that has been missing for quite some time now.
Arsenal are now in their fifth season, not having won any silverware at all. That is a terrible record for a team like Arsenal, who are considered to be one of the best teams in the world.
Wenger did manage to bring in a few players in the summer who have been doing rather well, but the manager needs to really focus on the experience aspect of the team, that is currently in simple words, non-existent.
The manager will also be looking to sign a keeper in the January window, having paid the price of not bringing a new face to take over the number one jersey at the club. Manuel Almunia was given the opportunity to redeem himself,
however the keeper gave such a bad performance this past weekend that the experts have recommended Wenger to opt to go for his third choice keeper, rather than play Almunia in goal again. Apart from signing a couple of defenders, the capture of a world class
keeper, will also be on top of the priority list for the manager in January.
