Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, has admitted that the pressure has been increased on the Gunners to end the trophy drought after being knocked-out of three different cup competitions within a span of one month.
Wenger said, “You cannot go out of the Champions League like we did and have no doubt. It's a massive blow. We had four targets and suddenly we have only one. So the pressure increases”.
“But this team wants to do well and I'm so desperate to help them get what they deserve because their attitude from the first day of the season has been absolutely spot-on. That's why I think they deserve to be rewarded and I'm confident they will”, added
the Frenchman.
Arsenal has not won a single piece of silverware in the last six years and their last trophy was FA Cup, which the Gunners won on penalties against Manchester United back in 2005.
Arsene Wenger’s men were poised to end their trophy drought this season and they seemed to be right on the track of winning silverware.
Almost a month ago, Arsenal was the only team in Europe, which was contesting in four different competitions, UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Carling Cup.
The Gunners made it through to the Carling Cup final and were favourites to lift the League Cup as their opponents were bottom-placed, Birmingham City.
However, the North London giants failed to take the advantage of the situation and a late mix-up between the goalkeeper and defender in the dying seconds of the match cost them the Carling Cup, as they were defeated, 2-1.
Moreover, Arsenal played some exceptional football and shocked the whole world by defeating http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League knock-out round at Emirates.
However, once again, the Gunners failed to perform at Nou Camp and were knocked-out of the competitions, after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Barcelona in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011.
Furthermore, the Gunners recently crashed out of the FA Cup, when they were defeated by Manchester United, 2-0, in the quarter-final of the competition at Old Trafford, two weeks ago.
Now, Arsene Wenger’s men are only left in the Barclays Premier League and their hopes of winning silverware are now solely dependent upon the league crown.
Arsenal, which is currently placed second in the Barclays Premier League, had a golden opportunity to close on the gap over league leaders, Manchester United, when they played against the bottom-placed, West Bromwich Albion.
However, the Gunners only managed to get a draw against Roy Hodgson’s men at Hawthorns and are now five points behind United but still have a game in hand.
