Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger wants the Gunners to maintain their composure
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has urged his players to keep calm and maintain their composure despite being knocked out of the three Cup competitions within a span of a month.
Wenger said, “It's important to keep calm, relaxed and focused. Not to rush your game, not to become too nervous. That's an important part of it. Every year we have a stronger second half of the season. I think in the last five or six years we have always had a young team, and they grow up during the season. This year that's happened again.”
Arsene Wenger also believes that self-confidence is very crucial for players in order to triumph and overcome the hurdles. The Gunners boss wants his players to only focus on the ongoing 2010-11 season and give their best till the last game.
The Arsenal manager added, “You need belief too because if you look at what everybody outside was predicting for our team this season, nobody was counting on us to fight for the title. So we are doing better than expected, but now we want to get over the line.”
Arsenal have not won a single trophy in the last six years and just recently they were the only team in Europe aiming for a quadruple; UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Carling Cup.
Arsene Wenger’s men managed to make it through to the final of the Carling Cup to play Barclays Premier League minnows Birmingham City. The Gunners failed to rise to the occasion and a mix-up between their keeper and defender in the dying minutes of the match gifted Alex McLeish’s men the Carling Cup trophy.
On the other hand, despite marking a historic win over Barcelona in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League knockout fixture, Arsenal once more failed to put a good performance at Nou Camp. The Gunners were defeated in the second leg by 3-1 and were knocked out of the competition by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38605 for the second consecutive time.
Recently, Arsene Wenger’s men crashed out of the FA Cup after suffering a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United in the quarter-final. Arsenal’s hopes of ending the trophy drought are now tied on the Barclays Premier League title race with Manchester United.
The Gunners are second in the table, only five points behind United and also have a game in hand. Despite drawing to West Bromwich Albion last week and increasing the point difference with United to five, Arsene Wenger feels that his side has what it takes to overcome United in the League title race.
