Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that he needs to strengthen his squad
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has admitted that he needs to ring in the changes at the Emirates stadium, but made it clear that he is not willing to break the bank in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners are in danger of finishing a season empty-handed which promised so much; a couple of months earlier the Gunners were in contention to win four titles. However, defeats at the hands of Barcelona and Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League
and the FA Cup respectively saw them crash out of the competitions – to add to their woes they lost the Carling Cup final against Birmingham City.
After the last round of matches in the English Premier League, the Gunners were demoted to the third place in the EPL table. As it stands, the Red Devils top the EPL table with 70 points with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Arsenal both locked on 64 points - the Blues are second
courtesy of a better goal difference.
Wenger admitted that not winning silverware is disappointing, but he refused to press the panic button.
He said: “Our target was to build a new stadium without dropping from the top and we knew it would be a difficult period for four or five years. So we had to make a decision on how to stay at the top with less money available.”
“People become impatient. I can understand that completely because I am impatient as well. If you look at our season you cannot come to the conclusion we need a massive change. That would be completely stupid.”
“Do I think it will be a busy summer? I feel there is always a need to improve the team. “Added Wenger
Wenger has been criticised for his investment in youth policy as the Gunners have failed to win a major trophy since 2005, however, the Frenchman maintains that instead of splashing the cash in the summer, he will sell ineffective players to have funds available
to bring in new names.
Arsenal’s top transfer targets are http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726 could be moving out the Emirates stadium.
Arsenal will travel to Bolton Wanderers for their next EPL fixture on April 24, 2011.
