Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that his side’s inability to dominate ‘lesser’ games have been the death of them
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has come forth and admitted to the fact that his side’s inability to put smaller/lesser teams to bed, is what has cost the Gunners another trophy less season.
For most part of the season, Arsenal were on par with Manchester United and at one point in March, the team seemed to be in contention to land as many as four trophies this term. However, as has been the case for Arsenal for the last six years, they failed
to land any form of silverware once again.
The Gunners were beaten by Birmingham City in the finals of the Carling Cup, they were then eliminated from the Champions League by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 – despite having won the first-leg of the tie. The team then felt another crushing blow, as Manchester United knocked
them out of the FA Cup as well. As a result, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 went on to implode on three fronts, in quick succession.
Arsenal were then believed to be in high contention to land the Premier League crown this term, however a number of defeats, including losses to the likes of Stoke City and Bolton Wanderers, now leaves the Gunners sitting nowhere near the top of the leader
board. Following Manchester City’s win over Stoke last night, the Gunners are now sitting in the fourth spot in the league and will have to hope that City stumble on the final day of the season, while the Gunners pick up a victory in order for them to snap
up the last automatic Champions League Spot.
Wenger seems to have finally realised that his team’s poor performances against lesser teams is what has cost them another year without silver ware and the manager is reported to have said: "We were not able to dominate in the lesser games.
"We were not ruthless enough and put ourselves into a bad position, which was a little bit the story of the season.
"Away from home we did well, against the big teams at home we did well, but in the smaller games we would not raise our level of concentration to be ruthless enough.
"Disappointments have been added to disappointments and it is difficult to fight against that."
It was high time for the manager to finally learn what was going wrong with his squad, but, now that he has managed to do just that, things might take a turn for the better at the club and hopefully lead to some form of silverware at the Emirates.
