Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and midfielder Samir Nasri charged by UEFA
The duo of Arsene Wenger and Samir Nasri have gone to suffer charges of improper conduct by the adjudicating body of UEFA. Both the French nationals were charged for confronting the referee and making some inappropriate remarks about his decisions.
It is still not clear as to what charges the duo will be put through, however, it seems they used inappropriate language and will now face the music in the near future. UEFA have stated that their case will be reviewed on March 17th, 2011.
The match official caused some serious confusion in both camps when he went on to show http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 a second yellow card in the game for taking a shot at goal. It had initially appeared that Barcelona had been awarded a goal-kick, however, with the referee
rushing towards the Dutch forward, it appeared like there was much more to it. The referee upon reaching Van Persie took out a second yellow and then a red to dismiss the player from the game.
This decision seemed rather strange, mainly due to the fact that the forward had taken a second to take the pop at goal after the referee blew the whistle. In van Persie’s defence, he went on to state that had the referee even blown the whistle a lot earlier
he would have still not been able to hear it, mainly due to the fact that the 90 000+ fans in the Camp Nou made it close to impossible for the striker to hear the sound of the referee's whistle. However, the official seemed to not take any of the striker's
complaints into account and gave him the marching order.
However, those were not the only poor decisions made by the match official. This was because in the first-half, Eric Abidal went on to physically grab Van Persie by the neck and the official seemed to let that offence go without even calling the player back.
In the opening half, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 as well, however, despite the French midfielders taking to the ground, the referee once again let the play go on.
In the second-half only minutes after showing Van Persie the second yellow, Alves went on to whip a cross into the Arsenal area after the referee had blown the whistle. However, it seemed like this time around the referee had a change of heart and didn’t
want to reach for his cards.
In the second-half http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38605 players time and time again. However, the referee didn’t seem to want to reach to his pockets once again. One can only assume that the reason for him not wanting to do that is
because of the fact that he felt some remorse for the poor decision that he had made against Arsenal earlier on.
All in all this match has just gone to show that perhaps UEFA should hire much more experienced officials for the bigger games. Nonetheless, this doesn’t mean that Wenger and Nasri were right for doing what they did, however, there outburst and anger can
somewhat be justified.
