Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger laments his team’s performance against Blackburn: EPL News
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told his players to improve their game or forget about winning the English Premier League title in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Arsenal were held to a nil-nil draw by Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening. The result leaves the Gunners trailing league leaders Manchester United by 7 points, after the Red Devils completed a remarkable 4-2 victory in their clash against West Ham United.
Wenger went on to praise Blackburn’s gritty performance but blasted his team’s lacklustre attacking game.
Wenger told reporters, "Half of it is down to the fact Blackburn defended well but I feel it was more down to our poor offensive performance today. Before we speak about the title we have to come back to a better level of performance, and then we can speak about that but we have to raise our level.”
Wenger however, refused to rule out his team’s chances of winning the Premier League this season, but was concerned about their performance against a Blackburn side fighting relegation.
The Arsenal boss added, "I fear nothing but I am concerned about our performance today. The performance we produced today is not good enough and that is the first concern. Our performance today was just flat so we have to come back to a better level of performance."
The 61-year-old admitted that his team lacked the tempo to create problems for their opponents, and also bemoaned their inability to make the most of their chances in the first half. Wenger added that his team should forget about the title for now and concentrate their energies on the pitch.
The former Monaco manager said that his team had a good start to the game but their energy levels dropped as the game progressed.
The Frenchman welcomed the return of skipper Cesc Fabregas, who has struggled with a hamstring injury throughout the season. Wenger is confident that Fabregas will play a major role in guiding the club to the Premier League title this season.
