Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger lauds timing of international break – EPL news
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has lauded the timing of international matches and said that it was a welcome break for the Gunners.
Recently, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson also expressed his happiness over the timing of the international break.
The need and the timing of international matches have been always criticised by the Premier League managers in the past, as they felt that the matches break down the momentum in the League.
However, this time, Wenger feels happy about the break. He said, “Maybe it [the international break] will help by giving the players a psychological break after such a demanding, stressful three weeks. Maybe it's not bad that the players focus on something
different and come back refreshed.”
The Gunners, who have not won a single piece of silverware since 2005, had a golden opportunity to end their trophy drought after they were drawn against the Premier League bottom-placed side, Birmingham City in the Carling Cup final. However, Arsenal failed
to rise to the occasion and a mix-up between their keeper and defender in the dying minutes of the match gifted Birmingham the Carling Cup trophy.
