Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger not to sell star players
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, while revealing his summer transfer season plans, insisted that he has no plans to sell off star players at the end of this Barclays English Premier League season.
Replying to a much speculated move of Arsenal’s skipper, Cesc Fabregas, Wenger said it is of no use to suggest that Arsenal are getting ready to let the Spaniard go.
Arsenal after receiving a painful 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bolton Wanderers at Reebok Stadium, are now placed nine points adrift from the current premier league leaders, Manchester United.
The Gunners are themselves to blame for not putting up a valiant effort in the latter half of the season, allowing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 to snatch the second position from them in the Premier league standings.
The 61-year old, Wenger while remaining firm on his stance of retaining all the big match quality players said “We do not want to sell our players - so all the players who have contracts will stay here unless we decide otherwise. We want to keep our best
players. This is a subject that in fairness is not very creative”.
Arsenal, who have not won silverware for the past six years, are highly likely to go empty handed again this season. It would be a miracle if Arsenal wins their ever slipping Premier League title from now onwards, as Wenger admitted it by saying:
“The title is very unlikely for us now - let's not hide the truth - but the pride of our group is to first of all finish in the Champions League places”.
Arsenal, who have four matches remaining in the season, would play their next match against their bitter rivals Manchester United on 01 May at Emirates stadium.
Expressing the point of view about their next match Wenger added, “We play our game against Manchester United on Sunday. Manchester United are now in a very strong position, but we have to fight until the end of the last second of the championship”.
When Wenger was asked about the speculated transfer move of Fabregas to his childhood club, Barcelona, he denied those links despite a poor performance shown by the Spanish international throughout the season.
Reports suggest that Barcelona are waiting for the summer transfer season to make their second try to recruit Fabregas, as their first offer of £30million was turned down by Arsenal during last summer.
Arsenal must learn from their mistakes, which they have committed this season. The Gunners were chasing four silverwares in the month of February, but let all trophies slip away from their hands. They failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity to win a
Carling cup but lost against one of the weaker sides, Birmingham City.
