Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger proud of his team’s performance in the ongoing Premier League season
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed his team’s overall performance in the ongoing 2010-11 season despite being knocked out of three Cup competitions within a month.
The Gunners’ manager claimed that he is very proud of the way his young Arsenal side performed this season.
Wenger said, “Personally, I am very proud of the attitude, the behaviour and the quality of our season. We want to fight until the last game of the season. I believe we do not have to be ashamed at the moment of what we have done.”
“Rather, I have to be proud because if I took statements from all the people here at the start of the season we were not even in the top five. What is important from now until the end of the season is we give absolutely everything to beat them,” added the
Gunners manager.
The Gunners have not won silverware in the last six years. However, they looked well on track to ending their trophy drought as they were the only team in Europe which was aiming for a quadruple of trophies at one point.
However, Arsenal’s extraordinary start of the season faded away in no time. The Gunners’ downfall started with their Carling Cup final defeat against Birmingham City when a mix-up between their keeper and defender in the dying stages of the match cost them
the title.
After the Carling Cup final disappointment, Arsenal crashed out of the UEFA Champions League. The Gunners marked their first ever win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in the first leg of European knockout fixture. However, they failed to emulate their winning performance
in the return leg at Nou Camp and as a result, were eliminated from the competition.
Most recently, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429’s FA Cup campaign ended when they were defeated by Manchester United in the quarter-final of the competition. The Gunners are now only plying their trade in the Barclays Premier League, which is their last hope of winning silverware
in the ongoing campaign.
However, Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions are also fading away fast. Though they won their last match against Blackpool on the weekend, they are still trailing the League leaders Manchester United by 7 points. However, they have a game in hand.
The Gunners next play Kenny Dalglish’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 on Sunday, 17 April, 2011.
