Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere claims there is no need for summer spending spree
Arsenal midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international’s comments come in the wake of criticism aimed at manager Arsene Wenger for failing to
bring in experienced players to the club.
Arsenal are staring down the barrel of a sixth successive trophyless season, and all the blame for their failure has been placed squarely on the shoulders of manager Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman has been the subject of much criticism for his famous aversion
towards spending money on battle hardened veterans of the game. Instead, the Arsenal boss chooses to place his faith in youngsters. It is a tactic that has backfired for the sixth year running.
The Gunners will once again finish the campaign without any sort of silverware to show for their efforts. Their depleted defence had a huge part to play in the downward spiral, and the fact that Wenger failed to shore up his backline in the January transfer
window has left many pundits questioning Wenger’s competence.
It is widely believed that Arsenal need to splurge in the summer transfer window to address their deficiencies at the back. However, Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere insists that a summer spending spree will do the side more harm than good. He claims that
Wenger’s decision to nurture young talent will pay off in the long run.
Speaking on the possibility of a spending spree at the end of the ongoing 2010-2011 season of the Barclays Premier League, Wilshere said, “Of course you can add players if you wish, but the most important thing is making sure the players you have are progressing
well together. I always look at 'the Invincibles'. People forget sometimes, they say we have not won anything and we need to buy http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Freddie-Ljungberg-c14143 people were saying 'who are they?’”
“The criticism is not always fair and that is a great example to show it because those guys have become legends. Football is not always about buying the biggest players [to] bring you glory."
Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League standings with 67 points.
