Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere remains optimistic of title chances despite Liverpool setback
Arsenal midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Wilshere-c17463 still believes that his side has a chance of overtaking Manchester United in the race for the Barclays Premier League title in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
The England international’s latest show of optimism comes after Arsenal’s disappointing 1-1 draw against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at the Emirates Stadium.
The draw has surely put an end to Arsenal’s already wafer thin hopes of winning the League, especially since leaders Manchester United opened up a six-point lead at the summit. With just six games of the season left to contest, it will be almost impossible
for Arsenal to overcome the deficit. Even the bravest pundit would not give the Gunners a chance to overcome these odds, but midfielder Jack Wilshere is still not giving up.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international insists that Arsenal will battle on until the very last game of the season. The title is now Manchester United’s to lose. The only way the Gunners can jump into first place is if United drop points in the remaining games of the
season. It is something that Wilshere is counting on.
Speaking on his side’s title chances, the youngster said, “Maybe the fans are starting to lose belief but they are great every week, they are behind us. We have to repay that. As long as we believe, and still think it is on, we just have to hope and we are
confident they will drop points.”
He added that Manchester United still have to visit the Emirates and maybe they can challenge them in that match.
It is not inconceivable that the Red Devils will slip up along the way. Manchester City recently proved that United are indeed fallible when they knocked them out of the FA Cup over the weekend.
It is something Wilshere is acutely aware of. He said, “Man United lost at the weekend and they have a big game in the Champions League coming up. Maybe that can put them off. We just have to win games. It's the one the fans want to win all year so we have
to put Liverpool behind us.”
The Gunners are currently second in the Premier League standings with 63 points.
