The German international reveals his admiration for Gunners and the English Premier League.
The midfielder who has an English father and a German mother has captained the DVB’s U-21 side and is not eligible to play for his father’s home country as he has featured for Joachim Low’s full international side. The 21-year
old was ruled out of Germany’s Euro 2012 campaign due to injury, and is currently away on a holiday in Canada.
Holtby, whose scouse father turned him into an Everton fan, was linked with a move to Goodison Park in the summer of 2011. The Schalke 04 man is a keen follower of the Premier League and has special admiration for Arsenal, with
whom he was linked with in the January transfer window. The German starlet did not rule out a possible move to England.
“I just want to give my best for Schalke and you never know. I always said that my aim was to come to the Premier League one day because I love the league and my father is English. Some of my favourite teams are Everton and Arsenal
so you never know” he is quoted to have said in an interview.
The Germany international did not hide his admiration for the North London side and reserved special praise for them. He is known to be a big fan of the Gunners’ style of play and the way they develop future prospects.
Although he admits if the London club make a move for him he would find it hard to turn down such a massive opportunity, as he would love to work under the guidance of Arsene Wenger, known by many as the best manager when it comes
to nurturing talent.
“It [a move to Arsenal] would be a massive move because in footballing terms they have always been my favourite" he added.
Holtby who has featured 35 times for the Royal Blues, is a key play-maker for the side along with Jefferson Farfan. Injuries to key midfielders mean that Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder and the young German could
just be what they are looking for.
