Arsenal should capitalize on uncertain situation at Ajax
The Dutch club team Ajax will be forced to sell a number of their top stars this summer considering the side is currently facing financial problems. Ajax is not the only team to have been hit by this financial crunch but they are amongst the first that are looking to sell their top players in order to get out of debt, or to reduce the amount of debt they are in. Players like Luiz Suarez, Maarten Stekelenburg and Gregory van der Wiel are all likely to be making a move away from the club in order to finance the team for the future.
Arsene Wenger will be amongst the few managers who would be closely supervising the situation that the Dutch team has found themselves in. The players at the club are by no means average or bad players in fact they are some quality world class players and players that Arsene Wenger could use to strengthen his Arsenal squad.
Gregory van der Wiel had already been previously linked with the Gunners in the past, but with the current situation at Ajax the best possible time for the move to take place would be now. Van der Wiel plays as right back and occasionally as right midfielder but he has been impressive to say the least.
Even during Netherlands World Cup outing in 2010 the young Dutch defender was spectacular. Arsenal could definitely use him in their squad the coming season, since it would help reduce pressure of the shoulders of Sagna who currently has no back up at the club. Which means that, if he gets injured there is no replacement for him at the right back position.
Luis Suarez is not someone who Arsenal really need at the club, but he has been strongly linked with the team numerous times in the past as well. He would fit in nicely in the Arsenal attack but considering they are already overflowing with an attack force they really won’t be very keen on recruiting the player. However if he is available for a cut down price the club won’t see anything wrong with recruiting him to the Emirates.
Maarten Stekelenburg would be the player that would interest Arsene Wenger the most. He is one of the best shot stoppers in the world right now and Arsenal could really use a goal keeper considering that the keepers at the club are way below par and were the real reason the club didn’t end up winning the premiership. Stekelenburg has had an outstanding season with Ajax and with the Dutch national team at the World Cup, would be perfect to come in and show the keepers how it’s done and help the team launch a successful challenge for the title.
Ajax on the other hand would be aware of the fact that teams like Arsenal would be looking to grab their top players at cut down prices and would most likely try to make a maximum profit off of them, which would result in it being a win win situation for everyone.
