Arsenal striker Robin van Persie believes the Gunners can still win Premier League title
Arsenal vice-captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 is confident that the Gunners can still be crowned Premier League Champions by the end of the ongoing 2010-11 season despite their latest Blackburn stalemate, which was Arsenal’s third consecutive draw.
Van Persie said, “The way I look at it is that United have two extra big games before they have to play us. Hopefully they will have to dig deep into their reserves and come here tired. That's how I am looking at it because I want us to have the biggest
chance against them.”
“We do believe. We still play them and we have a chance to get three points there. Everyone stays positive and speaks to each other and says 'Come on, we've eight games to play for, give it your all'. We will do that,” added the Dutch striker.
Van Persie feels Arsenal will look to take advantage of Manchester United’s tiredness as the Red Devils still have to play two fixtures against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the Champions League and the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City.
Arsene Wenger’s men recently crashed out of the three Cup competitions. They can now only concentrate on the Premier League title and Persie thinks it is a huge advantage for Arsenal not to play in any other tournament.
Arsenal have not won a single piece of silverware in the last six years and their last trophy was the FA Cup in 2005, when they defeated Manchester United on penalties.
The Gunners won their last Premier League trophy back in the 2003-04 season when their famous ‘Invincibles’ finished the season unbeaten.
Nonetheless, Arsenal are currently placed second in the League standings, seven points behind Manchester United with a game in hand. Despite enjoying an unbeaten run in the League since December 2010, Arsenal’s recent form is very poor. Arsene Wenger’s men
drew their latest game against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385, which has further dented their hopes of winning the Premier League.
Arsenal’s title bid is almost out of their hands and another bad result will end their crown aspirations for yet another season.
However, the Gunners still have to play Manchester United at Emirates on 1 May, 2011 and van Persie feels that it will be the season deciding fixture.
