Arsenal striker Robin van Persie bemoans Gunners’ lack of consistency.
Arsenal striker, Robin van Persie, has bemoaned Gunners’ lack of consistency in churning out positive results and claimed that it is hard to explain why his side finished another season without any silverware.
Arsenal lost its recent match against Aston Villa by 2-1 at Emirates Stadium, a result which has put Arsenal in third place, in jeopardy as FA Cup winners Manchester City would now need to win both of their matches to earn automatic UEFA Champions League
qualification while Arsenal would have to play qualifiers in order to make it through to the group stages of the Champions League.
Despite marking historic wins over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38605, Chelsea and Manchester United, and having topped the Barclays Premier League table in November, Arsenal once again failed to win any silverware this season.
The Gunners, at one stage, were contesting in four different competitions, Champions League, Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Carling Cup.
However, it seems like Arsenal’s last minute shocking defeat to Birmingham City in the Carling Cup final in February hugely affected the rest of their season. Since then, Arsene Wenger’s men have only won three matches in all competitions and were knocked
out of all four competitions within one month.
However, Robin van Persie believes that Arsenal has what it takes to win silverware and wants his teammates to prove their worth by winning the trophy next season.
Robin van Persie told Arsenal’s official TV channel, “There were lots of things (which went wrong) - we were not consistent enough. It is difficult to talk about it now. It is going to be difficult to finish third, but we still have one game and have to
win that to at least give us a chance. Next season we have to try [to come back stronger]. Everyone starts from scratch and we have a chance, it is up to us to prove it".
The final whistle of the ongoing 2010-11 season at Emirates Stadium was greeted with boos by thousands of Arsenal fans.
Moreover, most of the Gunners’ supporters already left before the squad’s lap of appreciation and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 feels that Emirates faithful have all the right to be unhappy with their team’s performance.
However, Robin van Persie hailed the tremendous support shown by Arsenal fans and insisted that the Gunners will fight hard to win the hearts of Arsenal fans next season.
Van Persie added, “The supporters have been great, every single game they have been supporting us tremendously and I am really proud to be a Gunner with them as our fans”.
Arsenal will finish off another trophy-less season with an away league game left against Fulham on Sunday, May 22nd.
