Arsenal target Bologna goalkeeper; Shaun Wright-Phillips looking for assurance from Mancini
English Premier League side Arsenal have had well documented problems regarding their goalkeeping department for the last 2 seasons. Ever since Jens Lehmann left, Manuel Almunia and Lucasz Fabianski have not been able to
get a grip on things. There is always a fear of a big howler from both of the keepers. In most recent memory Arsenal’s 3-2 loss against West Brom was a great example of it; Almunia was clearly at fault in 2 of the 3 goals. In the first instance he failed to
get hold of a harmless drive from inside the box that bounced off his knee and went into the back of the net. While in the 3rd goal the Spaniard went too quickly to the by-line but decided to track back and left an open goal.
Arsene Wenger tried his best to convince Australian Mark Schwarzer of Fulham to come to the Emirates, but his efforts failed and he was not able to solve his goalkeeping problems.
Now Arsenal have focused their attention on Emiliano Viviano, the goalkeeper of Bologna.
Arsene Wenger is fast losing his patience with the 2 keepers he has at his disposal, Arsene Wenger has made it clear that Viviano is the man he will be targeting next.
The 24 year old goalkeeper is known as an expert in stopping penalty kicks. He is co-owned by Italian champions Inter Milan and Bologna. Viviano is estimated to be worth 13 million Euros. The deal may not be that easy for
Wenger in January, as it will involve convincing both co-owners. It may actually be as exhausting as signing 2 different players, since both clubs will hold separate talks. If that is not hard enough, there are also various other clubs in Italian football
who have already lined up to get hold of the Bologna shot stopper. Fiorentina is believed to be one of those clubs. Viviano has also appeared for Italy, as their world cup winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was not available for national duty.
Meanwhile in England, Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has shown his discontent regarding the lack of assurance given to him by his manager. This is the final year of his contract by with the club and the 28 year
old has not been in the thick of things in recent times. Phillips has found it hard to get a place in the starting line up in a team that is full of stars. Manchester City invested heavily in the transfer market and brought in wingers like James Milner, Adam
Johnson and David Silva.
The right footed player, who left Manchester City for Chelsea but joined back after 3 fruitless seasons, has said that he has been given no guarantees by the manager. He added that still he will love to stay and fight for
his place in the team. Shaun Wright-Phillips believes that with so many big names in the team, it was bound to happen and he does also understand the rotation policy but all he needs is some assurance.
In the new season Manchester City have played 12 games in all competitions, Shaun has been handed just 2 starts in those games.
Shaun Wright-Phillips said: "The important thing at the minute is to do as well as we can in the league.
"When they think the time is right, I'll look at it. I would like to stay for the long term.
