Arsenal to assess Fabregas's injury
Arsene Wenger has stated that Cesc Fabregas has actually injured his hamstring as opposed to his ankle, which was what was assumed earlier on, considering the manner in which the Arsenal captain left the pitch, during the teams’
clash with Sunderland in the Premier League this past Thursday.
The Spanish midfielder picked up the injury as he went on to score a rather freakish-weird goal. Anton Ferdinand the Sunderland center back, was looking to clear the ball as Fabregas stuck his foot out to make a block, the ball
bounced of the Arseanl captain's foot and flew into the back of the Sunderland goal over the keepers head and gave Arsenal the lead in the game.
Fabregas had just started to pick his form up after returning from the World Cup, the player was the driving force behind Arsenal's Champions League win over Braga and was looking to be the pivotal figure in the match against Sunderland
till he picked up the knock to his leg.
Fabregas will join the likes of Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie, Nicklas Bendtner and Aaron Ramsey on the Arsenal side lines. However the extent of the players absence is still unknown to the player and the manager.
Arsene Wenger was reproted to have said in an interview on Arsenal TV online prior to the Carling cup match against Tottenham: "We don't know yet. It is difficult to say.
"He has a hamstring problem but, I can't tell how long he will be out for.
"Any speculation would be wrong because we have not had the scan."
However despite the captain's injury, it was highly unlikely that he would have been included in the Carling Cup team that Wenger would have fielded. Wenger is renowned for giving the younger members a chance to shine in such tournaments,
which means that Jack Wilshere and Craig Eastmond can almost certainly expect call ups for the game, along with Kieran Gibbs.
Arsenal will be hoping that their captain can recover as soon as possible, because his contribution to the team is very crucial to Arsenal progressing to contending to lift any silverware this season. In the teams match against
Sunderland when Fabregas picked up the injury, he was replaced by Thomas Rosicky. Rosicky did a decent job for filling in for the Spaniard in the midfield, however the difference in quality and the mindset of both the players was brought to surface, when Arsenal
were awarded a penalty that could have helped them win the game with ease.
Rosicky managed to hit the ball in the right direction but he let his nerves get the better of him, as he blasted the ball instead of calmly slotting it home. That miss eventually resulted in Arsenal drawing the game and dropping
two very crucial points. It is however also safe to say that if Fabregas had taken the penalty he would have converted it, the player has received penalties in such pressure situations in the past and hasn't had a single hiccup while taking them. Lastly with
Fabregas missing for an unknown amount of time, it is still unclear as to who would be captaining the side in the players absence.
Almost everyone including the teams opponents are hoping for the captain to recover as fast as possible, because it is just fun to watch the Spaniard play through the centre of the Arsenal midfield and many opponents claim that
they relish the chance to play against him.
