Arsenal are looking to finally bring in some reinforcements at the back as Arsene Wenger has targeted Ajax centre back Jan Vertonghen as his next signing. The team is currently in desperate need of making some signings at the back,
in order to strengthen the already weak Arsenal back line and it appears as though Wenger has finally identified the perfect signing.
The Manager is looking to make a move for the Ajax star defender and with Ajax well aware of the possibility of the player moving out, they have stated that if Wenger was to officially make a bid for the player in January then
they wouldn’t stand in his way to making the move to the Emirates.
Arsenal have been targeting the player since last year, but failed to really materialize on a move until now. However with the player now showing that he can operate as both a central defender and a defensive midfielder, Arsenal
want to move in before any other team decide to swoop in for his signature.
Arsene Wenger stated earlier this week that he was not looking to make any signings in the summers, but with clubs all across Europe also looking to land the Belgian international, it looks like Wenger might be forced to take a
u-turn on his decision.
If Arsenal does decide to move in for the player, then his transfer could set them back by almost ten million pounds. However if Wenger stays put on his decision to not sign anyone, then he would be looking to at least get the
two teams to sign a pre-contract agreement.
If Vertonghen does move to the Emirates, then he would probably not require any time to get used to Arsenal’s style of play. Arsenal’s star centre back Thomas Vermaelen just so happened to be the former Captain of Ajax and has
played with Vertonghen in Holland and for the Belgian national team. This factor along with making the move more comfortable for the player, might and most probably will also prove to be the decisive factor for the player opting to join Arsenal over any and
all other teams in January.
