Palermo have gone on to reveal that Arsenal have secretly been working up a serious move for Argentine midfielder, Ricardo Alvarez.
The twenty three year old player, currently plays for Velez Sarsfield and has been linked with a move to Europe, for almost two seasons.
Nonetheless, at the moment, it now seems like Arsenal and Palermo are the two teams who are leading the race to land the midfielder.
Palermo’s owner, Maurizio Zamparini is quoted to have said: "We are very interested in Alvarez. But it will be difficult to bring him to Palermo considering that there are other clubs like Arsenal and Malaga interested in him"
Well, Palermo seem to have accidently let the cat out of the bag with those comments. So far, Arsenal had been rather quiet regarding their transfer dealings and pretty much everyone assumed that the team was only looking to make a move for Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755. However, that is obviously not the case anymore.
At the same time, there is one major plus point regarding the potential transfer of Zamaparini. The player currently holds an Italian passport, which means that, if he does make the switch to the Emirates, then there would not be any work permit issues.
At the moment, Zamparini’s buyout clause is set at around eleven million pounds. That low figure means that Arsenal will not have to seriously consider about forking out the cash for the player, since almost all of their transfers are revolving around that price range.
Nonetheless, that being said it is a wonder as to why the team are even looking to make a move for another midfielder. It is surprising because, if anything, the one position on the pitch that the Gunners seem to dominate is the midfield. The team has some of the best midfielders in the business and should really focus on trying to bring in some defensive reinforcements instead.
However, now that the team has already started to make an approach for the player, we can highlight the positives over the capture of Alvarez. The player is tall, which is something that most Arsenal players can’t say about themselves, he has good body balance and can shield the ball, while linking up play brilliantly.
All in all, Alvarez could prove to be just the sort of player, that helps Arsenal’s midfield get even better than it already is.
It is now going to be another couple of days and possible even weeks, till it is confirmed as to what team actually get hold of Alvarez.
