Arsenal seem to be closing in on making their first defensive signing of the summer. The team has been looking to land a number of defenders, but it now seems like Everton’s Phil Jagielka is the team’s prime target.
The Gunners have been in desperate need to find stability at the back, following a highly unconvincing defensive performance last season. As a result, the team was rumoured to make bids for a number of defenders, which till now, had not happened.
The Gunners chairman, Peter Hill-Wood went on to confirm that the team had already lodged a bid for the defender, only to see Everton turn the team down. It is being rumoured that the team went on to make an initial bid worth around ten million pounds, but
are bound to improve on that initial offer.
Peter Hill-Wood, when talking about the Gunners initial bid is quoted to have said: "We have made a bid for him but they didn't think it was enough"
Following that rejection, the team is bound to increase their initial offer for the player to around twelve millions pound, but at the same time, would be willing to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Max-c24993 out at fifteen million in order to wrap up the deal.
Jagielka has gone on to spend four years with Everton and has managed to make a hundred and forty one appearances for the team. As a result, Everton feel that his transfer would cost whatever team is interested in him, a fee around the region of eighteen
million pounds.
Its about time that Arsenal started to pursue a defender or two. The team has spent far too much time trying to bring in more attackers, despite the club and the manager being well aware of the fact that it’s their defence that needs to be shaped up.
Last season, the Gunners backline managed to survive on a fluke. It was a miracle that they didn’t concede more goals than they did last time around. However, the team just can’t take that risk anymore.
Nonetheless, it is a surprise to see the Gunners make a move for a player like Jagielka. The defender has ample experience in the Premier League, but he is not amongst the best in the league, in fact, he has had his fair share of blunders in the past.
It also makes us wonder why the team won’t go ahead and make a move for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Samba. The Blackburn defender has been linked with the team for quite some time now, but for some off reason, Arsenal look elsewhere, when trying to recruit competent defenders.
