Arsenal to purse Liverpool’s prized goal keeper Pepe Reina in winters
Arsenal are reported to be willing to up their bid for Liverpool shot stopper, Pepe Reina, as soon as the winter transfer window kicks in. The reason for the team wanting to do so is, as a direct result of Manuel Almunia's terrible display against West Bromwich
this past weekend, which cost Arsenal three very important points.
Almunia gave away two very soft goals, as Arsenal suffered their first home defeat of the season. The defeat was made all the worse as it came at the hands of, newly promoted side, West Brom. The Spaniard’s mistakes were quite easily, the highlights of the
night, only for all the wrong reason. With both the keepers at Arsenal, proving themselves to be mistake prone, Wenger has finally decided to go to the market to sign a keeper.
Arsenal were rumored to have made a bid, worth around fifteen million pounds for the Liverpool keeper in the summers, but their offer was formally denied by the Anfield club.
Nonetheless, the North London team are looking to make another offer for the keeper in the January transfer window. With Liverpool, having a rather poor start to their season, Reina might be tempted to move away from the club, if given the opportunity. Liverpool
are also in a financial crisis, which means that if the offer is made correctly then the team, might just let go of their player.
Arsene Wenger must have run out of patience with Almunia finally. The manager gave the keeper more then one opportunity to redeem himself, but every single time the keeper has let the manager, the club and most importantly himself down. After his horrific
display against West Brom, the manager seemed to be finally convinced that the time to buy a new keeper was finally here.
Liverpool on the other hand, will put up a hard fight to try and keep Pepe Reina at the club. It would however be no surprise to anyone, if the player does decide to push for a move out of the club in January. Reina has quite possibly been the best player
at the club, since last season. Apart from a few errors that he committed this season, he has been rock solid and very reliable. Those are words that can not be used to describe Arsenals current keepers.
Wenger is well reputed for not wanting to use huge chunks of cash to sign players, but with the team now in their fifth year without any silverware the time for change is here. Wenger needs to realize that it's now or never, or soon, the fans of the club
might turn their back on the manager, due to his stubbornness.
