Arsenal to recall http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jens-Lehmann-c18297 from retirement - English Premier League update
Arsene Wenger has gone on to confirm that former Arsenal number 1, Jens Lehmann will be making a sensational return to the side, despite being in retirement.
The Gunners already had http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Almunia-c23386 as their
sole senior keeper. This resulted in a number of rumours and speculations being created about keepers who would come into the side, but it seems like Wenger is now going to turn to a player who he trusted in the past.
The manager was also considering the option of bringing back, on-loan keeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vito-Mannone-c36276 from Hull City, however, he is also suffering from a thigh injury at the moment. As a result, the former German International, who parted ways with the team in 2008,
was asked to come out of retirement to help the club out.
Lehmann has in the past made 194 appearances for the Gunners and was part of the Invincibles and the Premier League winning side from 2003-2004. The player’s form fitness and development have been constantly monitored by the North London side, since Lehmann
was working with the team to earn himself a coaching badge.
Arsene Wenger who held a press conference earlier in the day to target a number of issues including the signing of a new keeper is reported to have said, "Lehmann is training with us and will sign for the rest of the season. We have no cover in the Premier
League, so that is why I decided to bring Jens back. He has not signed, but it [a contract] has been agreed."
With Lehmann returning to the side, Arsenal seem to have solved their goal-keeping worries – but only for now. Even Wenger would know that landing Lehmann was just pure luck and that the 41-year-old is not a permanent signing for the team. The manager is
going to have to go to the market and look for a new number one at the end of the season and this could also potentially signal the end of Almunia’s career at the Emirates.
The manager had already stated in January that the Spaniard was up for sale, however, he is probably thanking his lucky stars that no one came through with a deal for him, since then Arsenal would not have a single senior keeper in the squad at the moment.
Nonetheless, with the possibility of landing the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shay-Given-c33284, all Wenger has to do now is invest in experienced talent and all of Arsenal’s problems could potentially go away.
