Arsenal vs. Manchester United: “The pitch was good, fine” - Sir Alex Ferguson
A match between Arsenal and Manchester United is always a hot topic in the days before and after the game. After United beat Arsenal 1-0 in their Premier League match on Monday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger blamed the pitch at
the Old Trafford for his team’s defeat.
"The intensity was high but it was a very bad pitch," said Wenger after the match. “The technical quality suffered as a result and that's why you saw mistakes from both sides.”
He added that even United had made mistakes because the pitch was “bouncy and slippery.”
Wenger wasn’t the only one voicing this criticism. Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere tweeted that the pitch had been “shocking” and alleged that Manchester United had “wanted to stop us playing!”
But United’s manager Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed any suggestions that the pitch had anything to do with the outcome of Monday night’s game and maintained that the Red Devils “were just the better team”.
“The pitch was good, fine,” said Ferguson. “I've no problem with the pitch at all and it was a surprise to everyone that this was mentioned.”
It will be interesting to see what sort of pitch Chelsea will prepare for Manchester United when the two teams meet later this week.  Chelsea is out of form – and luck – currently in the league but will be keen to beat United at
Stamford Bridge to keep their title hopes alive.
