http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429’s Aaron Ramsey wants to be a part of the Great Britain Olympic team
Arsenal midfielder and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Ramsey-c3065 has become the latest player to insist that he wishes to be a part of the Great Britain team for the 2012 Olympics, being held in London.
The midfielder believes that this would be a great opportunity for the players from all across Great Britain to get together and make a team that could go on and win the competition with ease.
Despite the player’s claims, it seems like the Football Associations from all the nations apart from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 feel that the squad selection for the team is going to be biased. The Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish football association have publicaly revealed that they are not going to be giving permission to any of their players to be a part of the team, since it is going to potentially harm the ‘sovereignty’ that the countries have established in the world of football.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale became the first player to publically be seen wearing a Great Britain shirt and since then, a number of players from all across Britain seem to feel the need to make their thoughts about the situation be heard.
Ramsey being the captain of Wales could greatly affect the outcome of this lockout that the various football associations are placing on the Great Britain team and only time will be able to tell us just what is going to happen in the Olympics.
Ramsey, when talking about the Olympics and the Great Britain team, is quoted to have said: "If we have the opportunity to play, why not? You're representing Great Britain in the Olympics.
"Having the chance to win a gold medal doesn't come around very often.
"Players, if given the opportunity, should go ahead and do it; I don't see what the problem is. I've spoken to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 and he's up for it.
"I think the Welsh are fine with it. It's up to the players."
Many experts believe that the various FA’s have the right to feel threatened by the formation of a Great Britain team. Not only could it harm there sovereignty, but it could lead to just one team being formed from Britain in the near future and that is going to have a very negative impact on the world of football.
However, that being said, it would be rather amazing to see some of the best players in the world team up to form one super team, which takes to the Olympics.
It is now a wait to see just what the various players and their FA’s decide to do in the near future.
