Arsenal's Alex Song wants repeat of Champions League form against Manchester City
Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has called on his team-mates to start replicating their free-scoring form in the UEFA Champions League in the English Premier League.
Song and his colleagues have been rampant in Europe’s elite club competition, having won all three of their group stage games so far and netting 14 goals in the process.
The Gunners are in for a tough test of their title credentials then they take on Manchester City in a mouth-watering clash on Sunday, 24 October.
Arsenal thumped Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 on Tuesday, and Song told reporters that he hopes Arsene Wenger’s men can keep up that good form for the game at the City of Manchester Stadium.
'Everyone is happy'
He said that: “When we play like (we did against Shakhtar) we can score at any time. Everyone can score at any time (even though) we played against a very good team.
“Now everyone is happy. We just need to rest now to be ready for Sunday, which we know is a very, very big game against City. Always when you play against City it is difficult but now we need to be sharp for this game. We have showed good character in the
last two games we have played at home. We have confidence. We need to go there, make a good result and show our best.”
The midfielder believes that the returns of Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott will greatly help Arsenal’s cause in Sunday’s game, while striker Robin van Persie is expected to return within a few weeks.
He said that: “We are very happy when we have everyone in the team. We know Cesc is very important to us. (On Tuesday) he showed again when he is in the team we are stronger. We are happy to have him and maybe have Robin as well. When everyone comes back
they will help make us more strong.”
