Arsenal defender and Brazilian international, Andre Santos is set to miss out on the next three months of football, as the player is set to undergo surgery on his ankle.
The defender was initially believed to be ready to get back on the pitch over the course of the next twenty days, but it seems like he will now have to undergo surgery on his ankle.
The full back went on to pick up the knock in the Gunners Champions League game against Olympiakos. The defender was part of the team that lost by three goals to one in the game, but still went on to progress from the group stages on top of their group.
It was initially believed that his injury wasn’t as harsh as it is and is going to force the player to sit out the rest of the year on the recovery table.
An official statement, which was revealed by the club on their website, when talking about the extent of the injury to the player is quoted to have said: "Following investigations and subsequent medical opinions by Club specialists, Andre Santos will have
surgery to repair ligament damage in his right ankle."
Santos when tweeting about his injury said: "I twisted my ankle in a silly move."
The defender has now gone on to join the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kieran-Gibbs-c20945 and Carl Jenkinson on the sidelines and in theory all four of Arsenal’s full backs are now out injured, with some serious injuries.
However, with the January transfer window now approaching, the Gunners could potentially look forward to bringing in a player or two to compensate for the lack of full backs in the team.
Arsene Wenger has already gone on to hint that there might be a mini shopping spree at the Emirates at the turn of the year and the manager is more than likely to have added a few new items to his check list.
It is now going to be an interesting wait to see just how Wenger adjusts his team to fill in the void left by the missing defenders and whether the manager decides to land a player or two in January or not.
