Arsenal’s Andrei Arshavin admits he is trying to make a comeback
The star from Russia, who has revolutionized and reignited the torch of world recognition in the Eurasian country, Andrei Arshavin has stated that he has lost his form and his glitter since he decided to make a move to the English Premier League.
The 29-year old Arsenal player has been an enigma in the English form of football as his form has been in severe question since his arrival in England. While he was the star player of the nation when playing for Zenit Football Club, his form has deteriorated since then.
The Russian player was signed by Arsenal in the January of 2009 from Zenit St Petersburg for an undisclosed fee. Later reports confirmed that the signing was much cheaper for Arsenal than expected. It was later officially announced that he came to the Gunners for around 15 million pounds.
Arshavin is capable of becoming a one man army on demand. He showed that in the in the match against Liverpool when he alone scored all the goals in the match as Liverpool was plundered 4-0.
Since then Arshavin has been a constant pain the neck for all other clubs as he has the ability to become a one man army on demand. However, fans have been constantly confounded by Arshavin’s inconsistent appearances which ultimately affect his performance.
The 60-year old Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, is aware of this melancholic situation. Arshavin has also missed out Russia’s first Euro 2012 qualification match against Slovenia. It is said that he didn’t play because of an injury.
His career has been littered with injuries and that has what has been troubling him again recently. He has already missed the first play off and just recently Russia was defeated by Slovakia. That defeat is partly credited to Arshavin’s lack of performance.
If Arshavin manages to keep a cap on his trivial injuries then not only would the player be benefiting Arsenal but Russia too and along with that he will gain back his form and performance.
Arshavin’s diminished performance and Manuel Almunia (Arsenal’s goal keeper) were the reasons why arsenal was unable to acquire the Premier League title last season.
Nevertheless, Arshavin is making a comeback this season as he scored 2 goals in his first 3 matches for the club which includes his tremendous performance against Blackburn Rovers. He was the man who struck the crucial second half goal in the match that took the North Londoners to victory.
In a recent press release the Russian versatile forward has admitted that he himself is puzzled by his performance. Arshavin has the ability to play on all forward positions including an attacking midfielder, centre forward and shadow striker.
Arshavin has been playing for Zenit since 2000 till 2009 and has been capped in 281 matches and scored 71 goals. He has also assisted 110 times in scoring goals. For Arsenal on the other hand, Arshavin has compiled 57 appearances and scored 20 goals along with 19 assists.
While talking to media Arshavin commented, “The year and a half in England has significantly changed me. I became calmer, more professional and spent more time with my family”.
He added, “As for football I can say that my style has also altered - it is more effective, but less sparkling. I don't remember when was the last time I scored a really beautiful goal. It is frustrating. I tried to analyse this, but can find no answers”.
About his injuries he stated, “It is likely that my injuries last year had an effect, because on three occasions I was out for a month, but it is feeble to talk about injuries”.
