Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger wants ruthless Gunners – English Premier League news
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has admitted that the Gunners need to be more ruthless against the lesser teams of the Barclays Premier League if they are to have a chance of ending their trophy drought next season. Wenger’s admission
comes in the wake of yet another home defeat for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 against a bottom half side on Sunday.
The Gunners were defeated 2-1 by Aston Villa in their final home game of the season. Supporters at the Emirates Stadium made it clear what they thought of their team’s dismal display on the night. Thousands of fans left the game
early, and those that remained booed their team at the full-time whistle.
Arsenal’s performance on Sunday summarizes their entire campaign perfectly. The Gunners have just not been consistent enough to deserve a piece of silverware this season. Wenger’s men were well-placed to mount a challenge for a
possible quadruple at one point in the campaign, but as they have done for the past six years, they cracked under the pressure.
Their troubles started with the Carling Cup final defeat to lowly Birmingham City. It was a blow that the Gunners were unable to recover from. Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in quick succession,
and their Premier League title bid ended soon after, thanks to a string of disappointing draws.
Manager Arsene Wenger believes that his side’s failure to win silverware this season is partly due to their poor returns from supposedly easy games.
Speaking on the matter, Wenger said, “Away from home we did well, against the big teams at home we did well, but in the smaller games we would not raise our level of concentration to be ruthless enough. We were not able to dominate
in the lesser games. We were not ruthless enough and put ourselves into a bad position, which was a little bit the story of the season.”
He added, “Disappointments have been added to disappointments and it is difficult to fight against that."
Arsenal are currently in fourth place in the Barclays Premier League standings with 67 points.
