Arsenal’s Bacary Sagna still regrets Carling Cup defeat to Birmingham
Arsenal defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bacary-Sagna-c7148 is still haunted by the Gunners defeat to Birmingham City in the Carling cup, while he confirms that he is nearing full fitness.
In the game that was played at the start of the year, both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Birmingham looked poised to head into extra time, as they were both goalless, as the match neared stoppage time.
However, a late mix-up at the back between http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Obafemi-Martins-c28273 steal the ball and bury it into the back of the net, as he ensured the win and the trophy for Birmingham.
The Gunners seem to have come a long way from that defeat, but it seems like Sagna is still haunted by the images of the match.
When talking about his experience, the defender is quoted to habe said: “When we've got close to winning something, like the League Cup with Arsenal last season, we've fallen from high.
“I will never digest that in all my life. It was inconceivable to lose that match. Everyone was waiting, but we crapped ourselves. We can lose, but not playing like that.”
The player then highlighted the fact that perhaps it was this defeat that took the team’s confidence with it, since their performances went on to tremendously suffer, following the game.
“I've thought about it for a long time. It's at that moment we began to sink. We were so disappointed, the fans were so disappointed, and they lost confidence in us.”
Nonetheless, the French international is now looking to move on from his loss, as the player looks to get back on the pitch as soon as he could. The defender’s recovery from a broken leg is on schedule and its only a couple of weeks before he is up and running
once again.
"I'm feeling well, starting to run again and I’ll be able to use the ball in a few days”
Should Sagna be able to link up with the team once again, the Gunners would be able to utilize their players better and hopefully go on and win a trophy this season.
