Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas delighted with win over Manchester City
Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has spoken of his delight at picking up the win over English Premier League rivals Manchester City.
The sides squared off at the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday, 24 October, but the Gunners were able to return to North London with all three points in the bag after a 3-0 victory.
Though City were reduced to 10 men after just five minutes following a rash challenge by Derek Boyata on Marouane Chamakh, the home side performed well. However, they could not stop the Arsenal onslaught
and goals from Samir Nasri, Alex Song and Nicklas Bendtner were enough to seal an important triumph for Arsene Wenger’s men.
Arsenal skipper Fabregas believed the victory was so emphatic that he said his side would have won even if City had 15 men on the pitch.
'We would have won even if City had 15 men'
He told Sky Sports that: “We knew we couldn't make a mistake [like Boyata did with getting sent off] because then it would be been 10 against 10 and their crowd would have been against them and it would
have been very difficult. We stayed composed the entire game. We were fantastic. Even if [City had] 15 men and we only had 11, we would still win.
“We always want to win and go forward and create chances. The way we played today it would have been very difficult to stop us. I think we played some outstanding football at times. It is a good victory
against a good team.”
Though the win has moved Arsenal into second spot — tied with Manchester United and City on points but ahead on goal difference — Fabregas was coy over the issue of his side’s title prospects with them
lying five points behind leaders Chelsea.
He said that: “Chelsea are looking very strong but they still have to play a lot of the big teams.”
