Arsenal’s Emmanuel Eboue signs a new long-term contract
Arsenal’s attacking full back, Emmanuel Eboue, has signed a long-term contract with the club according to the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger.
The Ivory Coast international has been part of the Arsenal rostrum since 2005 when he joined from Beveren. The 27-year-old has featured for over 200 times for the first team since.
Despite the fact that first team appearances have been few for the Arsenal 27 this season, starting only 5 Premier League games out of a possible 19, he remains to be a useful asset to the club. Eboue is arguably one of the most versatile players in Arsene
Wenger’s squad. He can play right back as well as on the right wing. Last season, Eboue was often picked to start home games as right back to bring an attacking flair to Arsenal’s style of play. The manager has kept a lot of faith in the Ivory Coast international
as he was bold enough to feature him on the right hand side of Arsenal’s 4-3-3, virtually playing him as a wide striker.
The Frenchman revealed that Eboue had put pen to paper nearly a month ago, signifying his continued loyalty towards the North London Club and his insistence to be a part of the club’s success in the future.
"He extended his contract one or two months ago. It is a long-term deal." revealed Arsene Wenger.
Retaining players is perhaps one of the first steps to attaining stability. Over the past couple of years, the Gunners have looked to rebuild from the Invincibles of 2003. However, whenever it looked like the North Londoners were getting back up to their
former glory, the Arsenal squad was further depleted as players went elsewhere to pursue their careers – notable examples include Alexander Hleb, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thierry-Henry-c34918.
Wenger’s faith in Eboue is unquestionable. The manager also regards him as one of the most upbeat individuals in his squad – on and off the field in an interview some time back. Therefore, having a player of Eboue’s character is definitely going to be a
positive influence in the dressing room while his experience can be helpful for new signings and youngsters alike.
Looking ahead at the month long transfer window starting today, here is what the manager had to say:
"There's still a big chance we won't sign anyone because it's difficult to find better players than what we have, but if there's an exceptional opportunity, you never know."
From these words, it is evident that the manager is confident that he has the best available squad at his disposal. However, depending on how Arsenal’s title ambitions shape up at the end of the season, for the Frenchman’s sake, let’s hope that the January
transfer window will not be seen as a missed opportunity.
