Arsenal's Injury Update (Part 1)
The Gunners have never been fond of international breaks during the season because inevitably there are some Arsenal players who will be on the treatment table at the end of the week. But, this time’s international break suits Arsenal as it provides time
for some of their injured big guns to recover.
After Arsenal’s crushing defeats at the hands of both Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion, this break also gives Arsene Wenger time to regroup his team ahead of its vital fixtures against Manchester City and Birmingham City. Wenger would hope that the return
of big guns inspires his team to play to their fullest potential. In the last five years, Arsenal has faced some severe injury problems that cost its title hopes dearly.
Moreover, Gunners also face ‘Dark November’ in their every season as it is believed that one of their vital players usually gets injured in November of every season. Last season, it was Robin Van Persie, who sustained double leg fracture in November and
was out of Arsenal's starting lineup for six months. But this time, it seems like a different story. Arsenal has already lost its key players before November but a positive point for the Gunners is that their big guns are expected to be back on field before
November. There are few chances of a ‘Dark November’ in this season.
INJURY UPDATE:
-Cesc Fabregas
Arsenal's skipper, Cesc Fabregas hasn't featured since injuring his hamstring while scoring a bizarre goal against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on 18th September 2010. The Spaniard had a scan after the game and Arsenal confirmed Cesc was expected to
be out for two to three weeks.
Cesc Fabregas also did not feature in the crucial London derby fixture against Chelsea which eventually Arsenal lost by two goals. Fabregas’ imposing presence on the pitch was surely missed by the Gunners then. But, Cesc has now declared himself fit, although
he has been ruled out for Spain's Euro Qualifier match against Lithuania or Scotland.
The Captain might be wearing his armband for the next Birmingham City fixture at home. His return would be a major boost to Arsenal, who hasn't had a good couple of weeks.
-Nicklas Bendtner
The Danish striker has not even played a single minute for Arsenal this season due to his niggling groin injury after the FIFA World Cup 2010.
However, the 22 year old Gunner hopes to be back in contention after the international break and reckons he is in the "best shape ever". Nicklas Bendtner said: "Now I am ready [to train]. Some of the boys have time off because of their internationals, but
otherwise I train together with the other first-team players at Arsenal and I have enjoyed myself so much. I have no pain in the groin and have trained so hard physically that maybe I am in my best shape ever."
The young Dane sensation is confident that he should be in contention for the starting eleven in two weeks time. His confidence will surely provide a lot of relief for Arsenal. But still, it looks hard for Bendtner to break into the starting eleven as Marouane
Chamakh has already had an impressive start to this season and has cemented his place in Arsenal’s starting eleven.
Moreover, Robin Van Persie still is Gunners’ first choice striker, despite all his injury problems. The big Dane has all the time in the world on his side so he should train hard to maintain his fitness and only then he would be able to get a breakthrough.
