http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 backs goal line technology – Premier League News
Arsenal striker and Dutch international, Robin Van Persie has gone on to admit that he is in favour of goal line technology. The striker has admitted that time and time again, human error have caused goals to be allowed when they shouldn’t be and to be disallowed
when they should be allowed. The forward feels that this leaves a window for luck playing a part in the game, but it also causes some massive decisions to go the wrong way, due to poor refereeing.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Van Persie said: “I would have technology for the offside rule but I’m not sure what.”
“Because it’s ruled by a human and humans do make mistakes.
“Sometimes you are lucky and sometimes you are not.
“In the end, I think it will be 50/50 with your luck and you have to deal with that.”
The striker then turned his attention to goal line technology and admitted that having some sort of a Hawkeye system in football was now becoming a necessity. The striker talked about the fact that some very crucial goals had been disallowed, mainly due
to the fact that the linesmen and referee just couldn’t see past a crowd of players, or follow the flight of the ball, due to its sheer pace.
When talking about the goal line technology, Van Persie is quoted to have said: “I would like to add a camera on the goalline”
The Dutch international then went on to talk about one of the most controversial footballing decisions in recent history, as he highlighted Frank Lampard’s disallowed goal against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 during the FIFA World Cup 2010.
The striker added: “Frank Lampard had a goal disallowed at the World Cup that was at a very crucial point,” he added, referring to the infamous goal that was not given in England’s 2010 second round match against Germany.”
It seems like Van Persie has ample reasoning behind him wanting technology to be introduced into the game. However, at the moment, the footballing world is torn into two halves, with one favouring the use of technology and the other opposing it.
Those who oppose it claim that the level of uncertainty that having humans produce, si something that is crucial to football being the sport that it is today. While those who favour it claim that due to advancements in technology, it is now time for them
to be introduced to football.
Nonetheless, with FIFA having the official ruling on using technology, it is now a wait to see just how they plan on progressing with the situation.
