Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie does it again in the Fantasy Premier League – Gameweek 12 Review
The international break had seemed to slow down time for many who were looking ahead to the resumption of the Barclays Premier League and Fantasy Premier League managers were left just as tense as their real life counter parts as to whether their prized
assets would return injury free or not.
The weekend saw a number of exciting matches with Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers playing out a classic and there was late drama at Stamford Bridge as well, with Liverpool grabbing a late winner.
Yet, in the end the one thing it all comes down to is which players scored the most points for the Fantasy Premier League Managers.
Goal Keeper:
Keiren Westwood (Sunderland) and Mark Schwarzer (Fulham) – 7 Points
Both keepers managed to end Gameweek 12 level on points and in joint top spot for the highest scoring players in their position for the respective gameweek.
A clean sheet, a few extra saves and a couple of Bonus Points meant that very few managers had smiles on their faces as both keepers were only in a handful of squads.
Defenders:
Micah Richards (Manchester City) – 14 Points
Manchester City’s versatile defender, Richards, impressed everyone in the league and got himself back to the kind of form expected of a player of his calibre after being relatively quite over the past few gameweeks.
What is impressive is that the City player managed to rack up the points despite not having kept a clean sheet. It seems an assist, a goal and a few bonus points can go a long way.
Other defenders who deserve a mention are Everton’s Leighton Baines (12 points), Liverpool hero, Glenn Johnson (11 points) and Phil Jagielka (11 points).
Midfielders
Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur) – 11 Points
Many claim that Tottenham’s left wing back turned winger, Gareth Bale, has a third lung as it seems the only logical explanation to his ‘breathtaking’ pace. Whatever the reason is, the two assists the Spurs player provided on the night were enough to take
him to an impressive 11 point haul.
Other players who deserve a mention are Liverpool’s goal scorer against Chelsea, Maxi Rodriguez, who finished a brilliant passing move with a deft finish to take his tally to 9 points.
Four players each managed to earn seven points each as they apart from Stoke City’s Jonathan Walters who costs 6.5-million, all the other players are priced below the 6-million mark. They include Wolverhampton Wanderers Stephen Hunt, Wigan Athletic’s Albert
Crusat and West Bromwich Albion’s Jerome Thomas
Strikers
Robin Van Persie (Arsenal) – 13 points
Arsenal are a one man show at the moment Fantasy Premier League points were the standards on which everyone was to judge them by, as the Flying Dutchman added another two goals to his tally as well as another 13 points.
However, he was not the only one to earn 13 points on the night as Tottenham Hotspur’s Emanuel Adebayour and Blackburn Rovers’ Ayegbeni Yakubu also managed to finish level with the Arsenal striker.
All in all it has been a high scoring week in the Fantasy Premier League with the average score coming in at 44 points.
